Second-Hand Xiaomi SU7 Cars: More Expensive Than New

In China, the Xiaomi SU7 electric car has garnered immense popularity. This enthusiasm is evident as second-hand models of the vehicle sometimes sell for higher prices than new ones. This intriguing phenomenon highlights the high demand and limited availability of certain versions of the Xiaomi SU7, driving up their resale value.

High Demand for Xiaomi SU7

A popular blogger named Li Dazhui showcased this unusual market trend in a video he released on July 23. Li sold his Xiaomi SU7 Max Founders Edition for a higher price than he originally paid for it. After learning from a friend about the increased resale value of his car, he decided to sell it. The Founders Edition, which is no longer in production, is particularly scarce, contributing to its high price in the second-hand market.

Accident History and Resale Value

Li had owned his Xiaomi SU7 for about three months and had driven it over 3,600 kilometers. Despite being involved in a minor rear-end collision that caused some damage, the car still fetched a high price. In his video, Li showed a screenshot from an app listing various second-hand prices for the Xiaomi SU7. For example, a Founders Edition model with only 600 kilometers on the odometer was priced at 343,000 yuan (47,150 USD), while another with 1,900 kilometers was listed for 335,000 yuan (46,050 USD).

The Xiaomi SU7 Max was initially sold for 299,900 yuan (41,500 USD). This exclusive Founders Edition of the SU7 was only available to the first 5,000 customers who ordered the Max and Standard models. It included several free upgrades such as Nappa leather seats, 25 speakers, and a car fridge.

Despite the damage to his car, Li accepted an offer of 280,000 yuan (38,500 USD) from a second-hand car center in Beijing. He was impressed by the high residual value of the Xiaomi SU7, noting that it retained nearly its original price after four months of use.

Features of Xiaomi SU7

There are three variants of the Xiaomi SU7, each with special features. The Standard and Pro versions both feature a 400V architecture. However, the Pro version boasts a larger battery capacity and a longer range of up to 830 kilometers.

The Max version is a significant upgrade from the Standard and Pro versions. It features an 800V architecture, dual motors, and a Lidar-based Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). These models range in price from 299,900 yuan (41,500 USD) to 215,900 yuan (29,900 USD).

Recently, Xiaomi unveiled a prototype of the new SU7 Ultra, which is expected to go on sale in 2025. This upcoming model promises to bring even more advanced features and improvements to the Xiaomi SU7 lineup.

Conclusion

The high resale value of the Xiaomi SU7, particularly the limited Founders Edition, underscores the strong demand and appreciation for this electric vehicle in China. Despite being second-hand and even having some damage, these cars can sell for prices close to or even higher than their original cost. This phenomenon highlights the value and desirability of the Xiaomi SU7, making it a noteworthy player in the electric car market.
