THE GOVERNMENT HAS INCREASED THE PRICE OF PETROL BY Rs. 2 PER LITER AGAIN!
Pakistan's government revises fuel prices twice a month. The new prices are implemented on the first and sixteenth of each month; you know the drill. On June 16th, the government raised the price of gasoline by Rs. 2.13 per litre. Today is the first day of July, and as expected, the price of gasoline has increased.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has sent a summary to the Petroleum Division proposing to raise the price of petrol by Rs. 6 and high-speed diesel by Rs. 3 per litre beginning July 1st. Prime Minister Imran Khan reviewed and approved the proposal, with some changes and tweaks. The new prices were announced today by the Finance Ministry. The price of petrol has risen by Rs. 2 and that of diesel by Rs. 1.44.
Petrol was Rs. 110.69 per litre in Pakistan at the time; diesel, kerosene oil, and light diesel were Rs. 112.55, Rs. 81.89, and Rs. 79.68, respectively.
After the government increased the petroleum prices, the new petrol price has become Rs. 112.69, and the new diesel price is Rs. 113.99. The price of kerosene oil and light diesel has come to Rs. 85.75 and Rs. 83.40. The new prices are now in effect.
Only 15 days had passed since the government raised the price by Rs. 2.13 per litre. What were the reasons given by OGRA for suggesting a Rs. 6 price increase, and what was written in that summary? We have no idea. But one thing is certain: consumers are not pleased with the second price increase in a row.
