In Islamabad and Rawalpindi, the Metro bus service is a positive experience. A new route connecting Peshawar Morr and New Islamabad Airport is currently being developed and will be operational in the next months. For this route between the twin cities, the government is planning to purchase 30 new Metro buses.
24 of the 30 buses will run from Peshawar Mor to the N5 bus station on G.T. Road. The remaining six will go from N5 to the airport with extra luggage space.
Initially, the National Highway Authority was in charge of the Metro bus extension project (NHA). The NHA spent Rs. 16 billion on the 25.6-kilometer track's corridors and stations before handing the project over to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) in March 2021. The project was taken over by CDA, which received Rs. 300 million in funding for the annual year 2020-21.
Bidding for Buses on the Financial Market:
The CDA's technical committee recently opened financial biddings for Metro bus purchasing and got a variety of proposals from both local and international companies.
The project's Financial Evaluation Committee qualified three bidders.
Foton, a Chinese vehicle manufacturer, was one of the qualifying bids. For each bus, the business had submitted a bid of Rs. 33 million.
Another overseas firm, Auto Park, made the same Rs. 33 million proposal for a Metro bus.
The Master Motor Corporation Limited (MMCL), a local automotive manufacturing business, was the third bidder, with a bid of Rs. 29.8 million per bus.
China's Higer Bus Company was the lowest bidder. They offered Rs. 24.2 million each bus, for a total expenditure of Rs. 728 million for 30 Metro buses.
The lowest bid of Rs. 24.2 million, according to project authorities, would be presented to CDA management for final approval. If accepted, orders for buses will be placed with the company. Within four months, the company will deliver the vehicles, and the bus service will be operational.
