Hyundai's Sonata has dependably been an excellent choice for a sedan with a lot of value throughout the years. However, it appears that Hyundai was not pleased with merely value in 2020. The Sonata was rebuilt and given an artistic appearance during that time. Then, for 2021, the N Line version of the Sonata was used to ramp up the performance. The N Line establishes a new midsize sport sedan bar with its 290-horsepower powertrain. The changes to the Hyundai Sonata 2022 are relatively slight. Notably, the formerly optional Tech package on the already well-priced SEL Plus trim has been become standard. The Night Edition, which adds a combination of matte and gloss black exterior finishes as well as a spray of carbon-fiber trim, is also available for the newly rebranded N Line.
The Hyundai Sonata for 2022 is a familial car that would be both attractive to the eye and a good value. From well-equipped entry-level trims to a pair of frugal hybrids to a tire-squawking performance model, Hyundai's mid-sizer comes in a number of flavors. Rather, the sedan impresses with a bevy of standard driving aids and a beautiful interior brimming with cutting-edge innovation. The N Line performance model's rough ride is mitigated by its comfortable seats and spacious cabins. The 2022 Sonata isn't quite as entertaining to experience as the Honda Accord, but it's still among the top options in its category.
From the finned taillights onward through a roofline that sweeps over a nicely surfaced body, Hyundai has mixed fab looks with drab appearances on the Sonata over the years, but this iteration is a winner. Normally, family vehicles have dad bobs, but this one isn't. Its bonnet, on the other hand, frowns down at the earth, seeking a lighter mood which even its nifty slingshot LED lightbars can't deliver.
The Sonata's interior is attractive and looks to be valued as much as the sedan's retail price implies. The rear seat is spacious and comfortable, the fabrics are high-quality, and the panel layout is simple and logical. But besides this, we were able to fit seven of our carry-on bags into the trunk, providing plenty space for a long family vacation.
The 2022 Sonata achieves an 8 for comfort and practicality because to its five-passenger seats and large trunk. The Sonata, like the Accord and Camry, lies neatly in the mid-size sedan segment, with a 111.8-inch wheelbase and a 192.9-inch total length. Despite a low roofline and seductive design, it's an anti-crossover with lots of passenger room. Manual seats with a decent range of adjustment and sporty woven fabric are standard on entry-level vehicles, while luxury variants include power adjustment, synthetic or genuine leather upholstery, heating, and conditioning. In the Sonata Limited, a motorized front rider seat is also offered.
The touch screen of the Sonata reacts swiftly to inputs, and the display's vivid images make it simple to view and read. There isn't really much of period of adjustment because the UI is straightforward. However, there aren't many redundant physical controls, and the lack of a tuning knob may be a disappointment.
In all of its incarnations, the Sonata uses 4-cylinder engines, however some are more powerful than others. Based on the most common version, we give it a 5 for its mediocre performance.
It’s one flaw is the set of difficult toggle-switch transmission controls, an 8-speed automatic gearbox produces slow but adequate speed and smooth gear changes. Despite its lower horsepower rating, the 180-hp 1.6-liter turbo-4 found in the Sonata SEL Plus and Limited has more muscle. Increased reduced torque and sensitivity have been added. It's quiet and smooth under strong acceleration, with a hint of turbo lag that the gearbox can't hide because it's geared for frequent fuel-saving upshifts. It's a well-integrated hybrid system with a 6-speed automatic transmission that's practically smooth in transitions between gas and electric power; even if it's not objectively swift, it earns excellent EPA ratings.
It loves to drive in Normal mode, which allows it to relax into winding back roads with soft steering and unobtrusive changes. Its strut-and-multilink suspension handles practically every road surface effectively, while hairpins show a fundamental softness that even the larger 19-inch wheels can't shake. It no longer seems twitchy like it did in Race pattern, and the handling isn't overly harsh. The rigid body also balances out any quivers caused by train rails.
The Smart Sense package of driver-assistance features, which comprises automatic high-beam assistance, adaptive speed controlling, and a motorist alert system that identifies tired or disturbed driving, comes with standard. The automobile can even maneuver into and out of a parking spot as you wait for it on the outside. This function, however, is only available on the Limited trim level.
