The 2022 Honda CR-V isn't going to raise anyone's pulse, but it's an intriguing small crossover thanks to its spacious cabin and fuel-efficient powertrains. That's one of our favorites, in fact. The Honda isn't very enjoyable to operate, and neither the normal turbocharger gas powertrain nor the hybrid variant is particularly speedy, but it handles and brakes with ease. On lengthy trips, its ride is equally soothing; just take it gentle on the pedal to avoid the basic engine's annoying drone. Because of the CR-impressive V's fuel efficiency, family trips will need less fill-ups than many of the other SUVs. With a bevy of standard active protective equipment and popular tech choices, it contends with newer rivals.
The 2022 Honda CR-V is mostly unaltered, with the exception of the Touring model getting standard all-wheel drive. All things considered, it's hardly a bad thing. The external design of the CR-V for 2021 and 2022 is similar. With a towering, arching roofline and a small, well-designed front end, this vehicle has an attractive flair. In the Touring model we tried, a subtle blend of faux-wood details, chrome plated plastic, and brushed-satin textures looked particularly premium. Front seats that are supportive and well contoured embrace their passengers in all of the right places. The CR-V 2022 not only leads its category in cargo volume and baggage space, but it also wins top honors for its incorporation of user-friendly and helpful equipment. We were able to accommodate ten carry-on luggage behind the back seat of the Mazda CX-5 and Ford Escape. The Honda has best-in-class baggage space when the rear seat is folded flat.
When you ride a Honda CR-V Hybrid, selecting a hybrid SUV no longer means compromising refinement and comfort. The CR-V Hybrid also has a number of distinctive interior features that set it apart from its regular CR-V sister. The iconic push-button gear selector, which is complemented with switches for Econ, Sport, and EV driving modes, is one example. A digital display within the gauge cluster gives information about energy regeneration and power distribution, which is another distinguishing characteristic of the CR-V Hybrid. The optional leather-trimmed seats on the CR-V Hybrid are ideal for getting comfy on long road excursions.
Every CR-V uses the same powerplant, with exception of the hybrid’s variant. 190 horsepower as well as 179 pound-feet of engine power are produced by a 1.5-liter turbocharged I-4 engine, which is transmitted to the front wheels by default, though AWD is optional on all grades. The 1.5-liter turbo-four has always been mated with a CVT automatic transmission, regardless of powertrain. When we evaluated an AWD CR-V Touring, it took 7.8 seconds to reach 60 mph. FWD models have a tiny edge over their AWD equivalents in terms of efficiency, with 27-28/32-34 mpg city/highway. Honda did its research by installing its first turbocharger, a 1.5-liter unit boasting 190 horsepower, in a CR-V and linking it to an automatic transmission to one of the best variable frequency automatic transmissions (CVTs) on the market—a compliment we don't bestow lightly. The CR-V does have one of the shortest towing capacities among small crossovers, at 1500 pounds. They will, however, love its polished ride, energetic steering, and robust brakes, as will everyone else.
Long or short trips are made more enjoyable by the CR-calm V's and compliant ride. Its sensitive brake pedal ensures that you have the stopping strength you need when you need it. We considered the hybrid model to be smooth and quiet, and we liked how Honda used sound-deadening materials and an active noise-cancelling audio system to reduce engine drone at broad throttle. When tapping the gas pedal, this engine was significantly quieter than the standard engine, that was one of the fastest in its class.
