The Toyota Fortuner is the most popular midsize SUV on the market. This ladder-frame vehicle has been present since the early 2000s and since then has gained a household name owing to its sturdy platform and proven reliability. Not only in its class, but across the whole automobile industry, the second-generation model has routinely topped the sales charts. Let's fast forward to October 2020, when Toyota Motor unveils the enhanced version of the midsize SUV.

On the IMV platform, the Toyota Fortuner is a body-on-frame SUV. This base is shared by the Hilux and the Innova, as are the engine options, albeit the outputs differ. The updated Fortuner has a sleeker design than before, and purchasers may choose between a sportier and more robust LTD grade, which comes in either a 4x2 or 4x4 configuration.

The Fortuner can seat seven passengers inside, with the third-row seats folding to the side to provide room for extra baggage. In comparison to the automobiles with which it shares a base, the Fortuner also boasts more amenities. Toyota Fortuner has been updated for 2022, with additional active safety features and stolen-vehicle monitoring capabilities. The Toyota Connected Services suite, which can send an emergency call and communicate the vehicle's position with emergency responders in the if an airbag deploys or is manually activated in the eventuality of an accident, is now standard across the updated Fortuner line. If the car is reported stolen, the tracking system can be utilized to find it.

Exterior:

The Toyota Fortuner is available in two different exterior variants. The G, V, and Q models in the lineup will be upgraded yet retain a comparable appearance to the preceding model. These versions will have redesigned front and back grilles and bumpers, as well as a revised rear. The Bi-beam LED headlights, which were previously exclusively found in the top-of-the-line versions, have been kept and are now standard across the lineup.Meanwhile, the Toyota Fortuner's more expensive LTD models will undergo a complete makeover. The new split-type LED headlights from Toyota. These updated units also include LED sequential turn signals, giving the LTD a more premium appearance. Sequential turn signals are also available in the back, although only on LTD models. The new Fortuner LTD has a distinctive bumper and front-end design that is more angular than the regular G, V, or Q models in the lineup. 18-inch machine-cut alloy wheels, which are not available on the lower trims, add to the more aggressive appearance. The Fortuner GR-S comes with Toyota's Gazoo Racing Sport package, which gives it a sportier look and feel. Diffusers and spoilers are included to improve the SUV's aerodynamic profile. The GR-S versions now have

their own unique bumpers, as well as new 18-inch wheels and a new rear bumper.

Interior:

Fabric, leather, and two-tone leather choices are available for the new Fortuner's interior upholstery. Fabric seats are available on the G and V trim levels, while leather seats are only available on the Q trim level. Meanwhile, the top-of-the-line LTD models include a leather upholstery with maroon accents that provide depth and richness to the interior. In the Q and higher trim levels, power seats are offered., however all vehicles come with a 7-seat capacity as standard.Other LTD-only features and adornments include ventilated front seats and Galaxy Black trim pieces, while upper variants will get paddle shifters, more buttons on the steering wheel, a leather wrapped steering wheel, an auto dimming mirror, a cooled compartment, and even LED bulbs for the dome, map, and other auxiliary interior lights. The Fortuner GR-S has the same features as the LTD trims, but with a Gazoo Racing twist. New GR-S seats, steering wheel, and a slew of additional interior upgrades are included.

Performance:

The G Variant of the Toyota Fortuner rides similarly to the pre-facelift model from 2016. The new 2020 model's ride comfort is passable on uneven roads and less-than-ideal tarmac, thanks to its ladder-frame chassis. Engine performance is likewise excellent, with the 2.4-liter diesel engine producing enough torque at low revs. The 6-speed automatic transmission works swiftly and quietly, but the Fortuner's best feature is its excellent NVH insulation, which prevents much noise from entering the cabin.

The Toyota Fortuner has used the brand's IMV platform, which is a body-on-frame chassis with a

longitudinal engine configuration, up to the present generation. The SUV is exclusively rear-wheel drive in its cheapest 4x2 variants. The top-of-the-line models will include a 4x4 system that can be switched on and off by a dial in the cabin. It's also worth mentioning that only 2.8-liter engine types will have the option of a 4x4 system. The 2.4-liter diesel engines, on the other hand, are exclusively available in rear-wheel drive configurations. Toyota has discontinued the 2.7-liter gasoline engine options for the SUV since the release of the new model. The nameplate is now only available with a 2.4-liter or 2.8-liter diesel engine. The 2GD-2.4-liter FTV's engine makes 148 horsepower as well as 400 Nm of torque, while the bigger 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV produces 201 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque, which are much more than previously. Both engines are inline-4 cylinders with 16 valves and twin overhead camshafts, as well as a Variable Nozzle Turbo and an intercooler in the vehicle's front. In the lineup, there is just one 6-speed manual gearbox option. All other grade variants of the midsize SUV will come standard with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The Fortuner's chassis has a multilink system in the back and a double-wishbone front suspension. Both suspension systems are entirely distinct, resulting in a smoother ride. Apart from that, vented disc brakes are standard on all models, with 17-inch wheels on the G versions and above, and 18-inch wheels on the V variants and higher. Thanks to a machine-cut finish, the LTD trim receives its own set of 18-inch wheels. The Fortuner's top-of-the-line 4x4 trims come with an auto disconnect differential and differential lock, as well as downhill assist control. The suspension of the Toyota Fortuner GR-S would be revised by the Japanese carmaker, who would add a new set of monotube shock absorbers and tweak the dampers on the vehicle.

Safety:

Pilot, front passenger, and knee airbags will be standard on all Fortuner cars. Meanwhile, the LTD trim level adds driver, front passenger, side, curtain shields, and knee airbags, for a total of seven airbags. Toyota Safety Sense, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert, and a pre-collision warning system, is also included in the LTD models. ABS with EBD and automatic braking, vehicle stability regulation, traction control, hill-start support regulate, downhill assist control for the 4x4 LTD, 3-point seatbelts for all occupants, driver and front passenger seatbelt reminders, child lock doors, Toyota vehicle security system, an engine immobilizer, and a horn, as well as ISOFIX child seat anchors are among the other safety features.
