2022 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe

Despite its coupe-styled sliding roofline, the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe offers a more practical approach to the sedan sector. A unique breed of four-door coupe that brought BMW's top-of-the-line 8 Series back to life. The 8 Series Gran Coupe, one of BMW's sleekest sedans, is getting a mid-cycle facelift for the 2022 model year.

The BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe is available in two trim levels: the standard 840i and the 840i xDrive, which cost $85,000 and $88,000, respectively. The key difference between the two trims is that one has rear-wheel drive and the other is all-wheel drive. Both trims have the same features and specifications.

Dynamic driving controls, brake energy regeneration, wood inside trim, and a head-up display are included in the 840i grade. BMW also provides a $1,100 premium for a Driving assistance package, a $1,700 premium for a Driving assistance professional package, and a $1,900 premium for a Comfort sitting package. Glass controls ($950), multifunctional seats ($750), and a Bowers and Wilkins diamond surround sound system ($3,400) are some of the available amenities.

The 2022 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe is likely to provide a lot, since BMW has been putting it through rigorous testing. The 8 Series will get a little makeover, according to reports and spy pictures. Lights and bumpers will be the only parts of the car that will be upgraded. Thankfully, the grille will be left alone, preserving the kidney grille's originality. A mean-looking set of LED headlights is combined with the chrome-finished trademark grille. More aerodynamic air vents might be added to the redesigned bumper.

A lip spoiler matched with slim LED tail lights sits over the screaming chrome tip exhausts. From the sides, the 8 Series' athletic posture appears elegant rather than threatening. There are 11 exterior colors to choose from, as well as Shadow line trim and optional metallic paint, as well as an aerodynamic package. The 840i Gran Coupe comes standard with 19-inch M double-spoke orbit grey wheels.

For a sedan, the 8 Series Gran Coupe has the most aerodynamic design. It is the longest sedan among its competitors due to its light weight. For a low center of gravity, the low ground clearance and short stance bring it closer to the road. The AMG GT 43 is heavier than its competitors, and the Porsche Panamera has wider tracks than the BMW 8 series. The outward characteristics of the 2022 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe that stand out include:

  • LED headlights that adapt to the environment
  • Exterior shadowline trim
  • Wheels with a diameter of 19 inches are normal.
  • Kit for aerodynamics
  • Exhausts with chrome tips

The inside of the 2022 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe is available in eight beautiful color combinations, thanks to its high-end Merino leather upholstery. With the 2022 MY, you can expect new Lavalina leather upholstery. The cabin features ash grain metallic wood woodwork, with walnut trim being a recent addition.

The 840i Gran Coupe provides unrivaled comfort. Up to 14-way seat adjustments, articulating backrests, bolster, and lumbar support are available with the front bucket seats. Both the front and back seats have the option of being heated. There's also dual-zone air conditioning in the front and back.

Despite its coupe-like rear design, the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe is fairly large, with a maximum seating capacity of up to 5 persons. The 840i, on the other hand, has no chance against the AMG GT 43. It may, for the first time, overtake rivals such as the Audi A7 Sportback and Porsche Panamera in terms of cabin capacity.

Although the cargo space of the 2022 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe is not the finest, it is sufficient for full-size bags. When compared to the competition, the 15.5 cubic feet of room may appear insufficient. Despite the fact that the Audi A7 Sportback has a small cabin, it features the largest trunk in the market. Interior highlights of the 2022 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe include:

  • Metallic wood embellishments and merino leatherette upholstery
  • Front and rear heating functions are controlled by a 4-zone automated temperature control system.
  • Comfort seating option with a large panoramic sunroof
  • Inlays made of carbon fiber

This year's BMW 8 Series will have the same powertrain options as last year's model. The new ALPINA B8 will, however, be different. The standard 840i comes with a 3.0L turbo 6-cylinder engine that produces 335 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque. The M850i is driven by a 4.4L V-8 twin-turbo engine that produces 523 horsepower and a mind-boggling 553 pound-feet of torque.

The engine is paired with an 8-Speed Steptronic sport automatic gearbox and xDrive AWD as standard. It takes only 4.9 seconds to reach 60 mph, and the quarter-mile run takes no more than 13.3 seconds.

The Mercedes AMG GT 43 has the greatest price and the most power output among the competitors. Despite this, the BMW 840i is so close to it in terms of performance. Although the Audi A7 Sportback has a similar power output as the 840i, it falls short in terms of performance. Surprisingly, the Panamera's standard engine feels underpowered in comparison to its competitors.

The 8 Series is a coupe that is designed like a sports vehicle and appears like a sedan. The 840i's Servotronic electronic power steering is excellent at handling the sedan. The M sport differential, which is backed by a 4-wheel independent aluminum suspension, helps to steady the car over turns. Twin-tube shock absorbers improve the comfort. Furthermore, the xDrive AWD makes it easier to navigate through tough terrain.

The NHTSA and IIHS have yet to crash-test the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe for safety ratings. The 8-series Gran Coupe comes with a lot of safety technologies and features. The majority of the safety features are available as part of an M-Sport package, which includes driver-assist systems including Frontal Collision Warning with City Collision Mitigation. The following are some of the major safety features:

  • Pedestrian detection and forward collision warning
  • Automatic braking in an emergency
  • Cruise control that adapts to the situation
  • camera in the rearview mirror
  • Monitor for drowsy drivers
  • Braking after a collision
  • Blind-spot surveillance
  • Cross-traffic alerts in the front and rear
  • Assist with lane keeping
  • Steering assistance with evasion
