The local car industry had a difficult year in 2021. COVID-19 presented several hurdles to our car sector, including supply chain concerns, chip shortages, transportation, and raw material pricing. Despite the challenges, automakers produced 215,776 passenger cars, jeeps, SUVs, and commercial vehicles in 2021. The number of automobiles produced this year will rise to 300,000 units.
The Engineering Development Board's (EDB) CEO, Raza Abbas Shah, met with Makhdoom Syed Murtaza Mahmud, Minister of Industries and Production, to discuss Pakistan's vehicle manufacturing potential.
According to EDB's CEO, the automobile industry is progressing as a result of the incentives provided in the Auto Policy (2016-21) and Auto Policy (2016-21). (2021-26). He expects the country's annual output capacity would exceed 300,000 units this year if activities continue at their current rate.
Last year, Pakistan attracted seven new manufacturers into the market place thanks to the current edition of the Automotive Policy (2021-2026). These newcomers have made a significant contribution to the country's automotive landscape.
Pakistan has also attained 95% localization in bike production, 55% localization in car production, and 92% localization in tractor manufacture. Vehicle manufacturing in the United States will expand this year and in the years ahead.
The EDB has also issued 8 licenses to EV-based Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in Pakistan to produce 2-wheelers and 3-wheelers, according to the CEO.
The Pakistani automobile sector is on the right road in general. The car manufacturing figures, as well as the proportion of localization, are optimistic. However, two issues continue to stymie the market: price volatility and on-money issues. The Minister of Industry and Production has asked the EDB's CEO to look into the matter.
The government is presently conducting an examination into the rising cost of automobiles. Let's see if anything good comes from it.
